Charleston Revisited

Sometimes – well quite often actually I have nothing to write about that I feel would interest anyone least of all myself but occasionally I have so much I don’t know where to start…..I wondered if I should call this post, my week in paper bags, my week of bric-a-brac, my week of cake, my week in postcards, my week in museums. And it’s only Wednesday.
Yesterday I attended an interesting talk at Charleston about the textile archive they hold – currently on display in the shop a small exhibition of intriguing pieces normally wrapped in acid free tissue paper; Dr Wendy Hitchmough the curator discussed the Omega workshop, Bloomsbury’s lost clothes collection (yes there were clothes) but for me the best aspect of the evening had to be the unsupervised access to the house – wondering in and out of the rooms as the sun faded giving the interior a muted quiet ambience,– looking out towards the garden the house felt that perhaps the long gone inhabitants might return.

Photo: For the F&B fans this colour is Bloomsbury Blue/ Grey – not on the shade guide.
If you want to see the house at it's best look out for events and talks - limited numbers with time to see all the details that can be lost when numbers are high.

  2. How brilliant to be able to wander around on your own... some of the magic of places is kept firmly in its box when you are guided or talked-to too much. Were you allowed in Duncan Grant's studio too? That was my favourite room by far :-)
