I made fairy cakes this afternoon. Children make them, so it didn't go to my head that they were a success.
I am hankering after some dariole molds/tins so I can create the classic English Madeleine, but until then I improvised.....
I think with fairy cakes you can be as gaudy or tasteful as you want; I tried tasteful and classic today.
They look very tasteful! And very tasty. I was only just thinking of making fairy cakes myself yesterday as I was admiring some very fancy paper fairy cake cups in Heals. They were stupidly expensive though so I think I'll be using the ones I already have at home that came from the supermarket.

ReplyDeleteHi Kelly,
ReplyDeleteEnglish madeleines are made in dariole moulds and I found several internet sites where they can be bought for about £2 each....most recipes make the minimum of 12 so it isn't cheap, but it's a lifetime purchase....I'm saving up.
French madeleine trays - well I'm not sure as I've had mine for years which I picked up at Lakeland in the discontinued corner.
Needless to say all the fairies have flown away into various tummies;-)
