Mood - Good

The sun is shining.
I am listening to Pocket Symphony, Air's new CD.
Yesterday I bought a soaking tray from Lakeland which I shall be using in a minute to soak my oven shelves -
Another thing that has made me happy is that I have arranged to have an organic box delivered - the vegetables being grown just up the road - well less than 5 miles away and they have chickens too so I can buy my eggs from there as well. And they also sell apple juice made from Oakwood Farm in East Sussex. Of course it might all end in tears as any exotic vegetables will be refused by my husband, but I have already thought how I can get round that one - lie.
And another thing I have a blackbird visiting my garden again, Blackie, son of Blackie. Circle of life.

  1. I get my veg boxes from Peter and Liz where I began my flower growing. They used to do mixed boxes but now call on a Sunday to get an order for the following week.
It would be much easier if they did it online but Peter is very much old school and I suspect that the telephone is a bit of a stretch for him.
It is devilishly difficult to get him to take on new customers - if he had a shop it would be Black Books. The pre-ordering stops the arrival of 6 cabbages and 1 beetroot that I got with the first organic box scheme I used.
What counts as an exotic veg?

  2. In my husband's case pak-choy, broad beans, celariac, purple sprouting broccoli I could go on until the cows come home; I plan to tell him that any stange vegetable is an old variety of cabbage or spinach as he will like that......I can lie very well when I have too....and as for the broad beans I will just have to cover with a big dollop of butter!
6 cabbages and a beetroot - that would stretch the most dedicated disciple!

  3. Speaking of blackbirds, we go to a local place named "Crow Farm" for our seedlings. It will be a couple of months before I can start buying my veggie plants there. I've never tried celariac before - I'll have to look that one up. We've had snow/sleet and rain the past two days, so the mood here needs to perk up (and with 6 people in the house, that's alot of perking)!

  4. Celeriac and mushroom soup is very good. People always say to mash it with potatoes but I always find it is too watery - perhaps I am cooking it wrong.

  5. I'd love to join a box scheme but I fear delivery would be a problem as we live a flat and are out at work all day.
Am very intrigued by the soaking tray as my oven shelves are very dirty and the thought of scrubbing them in the sink is not a good one.

  7. The soaking tray is very good - £9.99 from Lakeland.

After all my excitement over my organic box is a non starter - can't deliver to my door and I am not prepared to pay through the nose and have to go to a drop off point.
