Cakes and Cooks in London

Yesterday I went to London with my friend Louise who is over from New York.
We kept it simple with the aim of just visiting two shops, Jane Asher’s Cake Shop in South Kensington and Books for Cooks in Notting Hill.
When we left South Kensington tube station I spotted Carluccio’s, so we
popped in and had coffee and the most divine cakes.
Neither of us realised that there was a small eating area at the back of Books for Cooks and for once our timing was perfect as we got the last 2 set lunches.
£7 for 3 courses or £5 for 2 it was too good to be true.

We started with this

Then we moved on to this

And finally finished off with this
Louise has been spoiling me by bringing lots of lovely fabrics back from the US.
My creative juices are flowing………..

I spend an hour folding and unfolding all this fabric loveliness

I am going through a bird phase

  1. I love going out for lunch - it always seems more decadent than going out for a meal at night - and better value!

I really like that braid with the sewing machines on - you are lucky having a friend who knows your tastes.

I have been tempted to order fabric from the States as the prices are so much cheaper but somehow feel that as I have cut down on flying for eco reasons I shouldn't really have my materials flying in from the States. Now if I could find a suitable friend who was coming anyway . . .

  2. lunch out with a good friend - how lovely x
and such a wonderful pile of fabrics, and that braid!!!!
your friend should bring over as much as she can carry and sell it over here - i would stand in the queue!

i also have a thing for birds on just about anything.

    tracy x

  3. OMG! I love that bird lucky little devil!

The USA has some amazing fabrics and I always take an empty suitcase with me when I go home and it always comes back full of fabrics!

I can't wait to see what you are gonna make with them.(wink wink)
    Hugs x

  4. Love those birds! Hope you'll show us what you do with them. Sounds like a fun day out and great vlaue too.

These new fabrics are pleasing me. Did you see my naughty cat drinking from your bird bath, such manners!!

  6. that lunch! what a bargain! looks scrumptious + i've made a note to check it out when i next head down.

birdy fabrics are so good. i'm officially green eyed! what will you make? xx

  7. Ooooohhhh... I love that paint by number bird fabric, I've been meaning to get some of it myself for ages!

Thanks so much for your lovely comments on my blog, I hope your pincushion turns out a treat!
I'll be sure to take your advice and add an email me link very soon.
    Thanks again,
    Leah xxx
