Cakes and Cooks in London

Yesterday I went to London with my friend Louise who is over from New York.
We kept it simple with the aim of just visiting two shops, Jane Asher’s Cake Shop in South Kensington and Books for Cooks in Notting Hill.
When we left South Kensington tube station I spotted Carluccio’s, so we
popped in and had coffee and the most divine cakes.
Neither of us realised that there was a small eating area at the back of Books for Cooks and for once our timing was perfect as we got the last 2 set lunches.
£7 for 3 courses or £5 for 2 it was too good to be true.

We started with this

Then we moved on to this

And finally finished off with this
Louise has been spoiling me by bringing lots of lovely fabrics back from the US.
My creative juices are flowing………..

I spend an hour folding and unfolding all this fabric loveliness

I am going through a bird phase

  1. I love going out for lunch - it always seems more decadent than going out for a meal at night - and better value!

I really like that braid with the sewing machines on - you are lucky having a friend who knows your tastes.

I have been tempted to order fabric from the States as the prices are so much cheaper but somehow feel that as I have cut down on flying for eco reasons I shouldn't really have my materials flying in from the States. Now if I could find a suitable friend who was coming anyway . . .
