When Crusty is Good

I have just sat down after a gruelling morning doing my weekly shop …..online - and making a cake.
Today’s offering comes from an old book – Delia’s Book of Cakes.
I like this book for a number of reasons, the ingredients are in imperial and it has no pretensions, it was written in those long off days when a book of cakes was about – cakes and not a lifestyle manual with a few recipes thrown in.
Whatever your thoughts about her last series on TV, How to Cheat, I find her recipes work and I respect her not cashing in like others I could mention endorsing products for nothing more than monetary gain.
I am digressing slightly so here it is Crusty Current Cake; easy, fun and the best bit, delicious!

Tray greased and lined ready for all the goodies

'Crust' goes in next - sugar, currents and hazelnuts.

Sponge now - made with plain flour

Mummy's little helping doing what he does best

The lovely crust reveals its self.

Excuse me as I indulge myself with a second cup of coffee and piece of this cake...

  2. Your cake does look yummy.

I may have to get over my Delia aversion and try it ;-) Though I must say that One Is Fun remains one of the most often pored over books on my shelf!

  10. Miss Dog loves to be Mummy's Little Helper too. The trouble is she gets so excited waiting that I am likely to slip over in the vast puddle of drool. Yes, another gross detail from my life XXX
Ps. I wonder how that cake would travel - yum!
